Inside the Division

          We are the American Legion Department of Illinois FIRST DIVISION.   The First Division is composed of nine Districts with a total of 200 local Posts spread over the entire Cook County in the state of Illinois.  The First Division has a membership of over 34,000 members.  Our Post membership sizes range from 15 members up to 1450 members. 

         The First Division holds monthly meetings at Chicago City Hall the first Wednesday of the month.   The Division Commander, Officers and Committee Chairman give their reports at this meeting.   This information is taken back to the District meetings which are held in nine locations around the County.  Post Officers attend the District meetings and bring the information to the Blue Cap Legionaries.

         The Division, Districts and Posts in Cook County conduct numerous programs of interest and benefit to veterans, their families and communities.   Programs such as Policeman,Fireman and Paramedic of the year award, Legion Leadership, Community Service Week, Premier Boys State, Youth Police School, American Legion Baseball, High School Oratorical Contests, Boy Scouts, Blood Donor Donations, Child Safety.  This is only a sampling of the many programs of The American Legion and the First Division.
